Still working on my phoenix project; and despite the fact that my time is ticking down, and Thanksgiving is just around the corner, I started picking up another project. Though I still plan on having that illustration done for Thanksgiving.

Game design has been on the front of my mind lately. I've always thought about game concepts and ideas, but just wait it out until someone else does it. As of late however, I've gotten tired of sitting around, waiting for my ideas to come out onto an RPG. So I decided to try making my own.

I think the experience will be good for me, and will give me a better appreciation of the kind of work that goes into creating a cohesive game.

That's a tall order... what kind of software will you use to make the RPG? I heard about something recently called RPG Maker, haven't looked into it yet... I bought something similar back in the late 1980's for my Apple IIc :\ Really primitive, glad they gave me my money back.

haha. it is a bit of an ordr isnt it?

But actually it hasn't been too hard so far. I've taught myself c++ and I'm working with Microsoft Game Creator. I have heard of RPG maker, and actually put a forum post out there asking about it. Essentially from what I've found is that you can create a game with rpg maker but your game will be more story driven than code heavy. Which isn't necessarily bad, but it does lead to a simplicity that I believe I can do better than.

Everything is very cookie cutter. While there is room for customization, you are, in the end, stuck to a template. Essentially all the games made with rpg maker kind of look the same. While I would have loved to use it for its ease of programming; I realized that the codes I wanted to implement, would not be possible.

Don't get me wrong though, or think I'm bashing the program. Its extremely intuitive to use. A complete fool could get on and create something halfway decent. My bets are; if you really spent the time on a game using rpg maker, its gonna be a solid hit. There's plenty of already made textures, and sprites so if the visual art world isnt your strongest point, you can still wiggle by. On the opposite end, it also allows for importing of your own images; so you can easily create all of your own pixart.`

Despite the fact that it wasn't the program for this project, I think I still may use it to create something simple; or with my luck, I'll probably get side tracked and do something overly convoluted.

Thanks for the response!
